Lyne Bond, Hon. B.Sc, D.Sc.O, D.O.M.P., is the owner of Bond Osteopathic Clinic in Bala, Muskoka. For the last twenty-five years, she owned the Uxbridge Osteopathic Clinic and the Newmarket Bond Osteopathy clinic.

Lyne graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1984 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and minor in Kinesiology. Lyne did her undergraduate thesis on the effects of stress on the adrenal glands in rats. She worked for 6 years in the cardiology area as the national sales manager for Quinton Medical Instruments.

After spending time at home with her two children, Lyne went back to school and attended the Canadian College of Osteopathy. She defended her thesis and received her Doctorate of Osteopathy in Manual Practice in 2004.

Lyne has spent over five years on the Board of Directors for the Al & Malka Green Artist’s Health Centre, Toronto Western Hospital. She was involved in bringing Osteopathy into the hospital. This is the first in Canada. The Centre’s inter-professional team offers both medical and complementary care to professional creative and performing artists, and to the students and staff at the post-secondary arts institution. She now sits on the Advisory counsel for the clinic.

Lyne continues to take graduate courses and improve her skills in Osteopathy. She focuses on children, concussions and sports injuries. She also has had extensive interest in treating Lyme disease while under physicians care with antibiotics.   In addition, osteopathy works really well with chemotherapy and will not interfere with the drugs.  Many oncologists recommend osteopathy for this reason as it helps the patient deal with the chemotherapy more easily.

Lyne has 2 adult children and 2 dogs and a Maine Coon cat"

Benefits of Osteopathy

The benefit of osteopathy is that it treats the whole body. This allows relief from symptoms that often show up in a different area from where the problem exists.  In addition, sometimes there is a propensity for many diverse contributing factors to cause the symptoms the patient is having.

This approach allows treatment to be efficient, which helps reduce the frequency of visits and overall costs. Osteopathy requires years of education and training to develop precise refined palpation skills.

Osteopathy can benefit the following:

* Osteopathy can benefit patients with chronic Lyme disease while under medical treatment with their LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor) or family doctor.  The benefit with osteopathy is that it won’t interfere with the antibiotics and is a great adjunct to medical treatment.

In addition, Lyne has taken many of  Dr. James Jealous courses and he is the founder of Biodynamic Osteopathy.   She has completed 4 phases as well as additional courses with him.  Lyne is in good standing with the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners

Babies & Children

Newborns and infants.

It is easy to bond with a baby who is happy all the time.  However, what happens if your baby cries all the time, has feeding problems or resists being held and comforted?  Babies who are healthy often sleep better and this helps everyone in the household.  Being born is one of the most stressful events we humans experience. Osteopathy treatments help the physical strains that result from birth.  The treatments benefit the following
:

  • Crying, irritability, difficulty settling, colic, sleep disturbances
  • Breastfeeding challenges ( difficulty latching, preference for feeding on one side)
  • Digestive issues (spitting-up, gas, constipation)
  • Obvious asymmetries in head shape

Toddlers and young children.

For toddlers and older children treatment can also help with:

  • Asthma
  • Recurring ear and sinus infection
  • Behavioral and learning difficulties (ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, Autism)
  • Growing pains and injuries

Osteopathic treatments also benefit children after significant falls, sports injuries and help release strains in the tissue and prevent compensatory postural adaptations.

still

Osteopathic philosophy was developed by American physician Andrew Taylor Still in the years after the Civil War.  Dr. Still considered manual diagnosis and treatment as additions to the interventions already available to physicians. His main focus was on physical anatomy as he was a surgeon. Dr. Still's interest was to enhance nature’s own ability to heal.

images-1In Canada, osteopathic manual practitioners are not physicians. They focus on the “whole-body” philosophy to health care using manual techniques. Osteopathic manual practitioners do not simply treat the problem area but look for the underlying cause of the problem. Osteopathic philosophy believes the patient is an integrated functioning body, therefore, when all the components are in balance, the patient is in a state of complete health.

There are four key principles of osteopathic philosophy:

  •  The body is capable of self-healing and self-regulation but this depends on the flow of the body’s fluid (lymphatic, vascular and neurological) being preserved and maintained.
  • Structure and function of body parts are interrelated. When a structure is damaged, out of place, or not working properly, the body will not function optimally.
  • The body works as a whole. It is a dynamic unit, including physical, cognitive and social-emotional that must work together for harmony.

Treatment is designed to decrease or remove restrictions to health, and enable the body’s inherent ability to heal itself.
