Parks in Muskoka
Description
No Muskoka adventure would be complete without visiting at least one of the region’s parks. There’s certainly no shortage of them: cottage country boasts two national parks, 11 provincial and several local parks, all just waiting to be explored.
Hardcore campers and day-trippers alike visit Muskoka’s parks for their unique beauty, to photograph the stunning fall colours and plentiful wildlife (no trip’s complete without seeing deer, moose or other wild animals), or for a chance to get active in the great outdoors. Other family activities to enjoy in Muskoka’s parks include bird watching, climbing, museum visits… or enjoying a relaxing picnic next to a gushing waterfall.
Algonquin Provincial Park, a vast tract of land stretching 7,500 sq kms from North Bay to the Ottawa River, is a must for any visitor to Muskoka. Consisting of vast stretches of forest, rocky ridges, spruce bogs and endless lakes, ponds and streams, Algonquin begs to be explored by canoe or by hiking or biking. The Park boasts 12 campgrounds, some located deep in the interior and accessible only by water or on foot (by snowshoe, cross country skis or even dogsled in winter), while some are accessible by car or RV.
